### Overview

A South African safari should leave you thinking about the animals you saw, not the details you had to manage.

For Jewish families, that distinction matters. You may be wondering whether kosher food will genuinely meet your standards, whether Shabbat can feel peaceful in the bush, or whether someone will understand the small details that make a journey feel effortless rather than merely accommodated.

In South Africa, those questions can be answered before you leave home.

Kosher provisions are arranged in advance, with kosher meat sourced through established South African channels such as Moishe's Kosher Butchery when appropriate, while alternative arrangements can be coordinated through trusted Jewish resources elsewhere in Africa when an itinerary requires it. Private chefs and safari lodges can be briefed well before arrival, so meals, ingredients, preparation, and timing are considered before your family ever reaches the reserve.

That preparation follows you into the wilderness.

Imagine leaving your private lodge before sunrise as mist hangs over the Lowveld. Your guide is already waiting, blankets folded into the vehicle, coffee prepared. Hours later, elephants move through the woodland and a leopard disappears into the shade. You return to a beautifully prepared meal rather than another decision to make.

On Friday, the pace changes naturally. Fresh challah, kosher wine, and familiar provisions have already been arranged. Your private space is prepared before sundown, allowing Shabbat to arrive with dignity and calm rather than logistical anxiety.

South Africa gives you extraordinary variety: the wildlife of Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, the conservation legacy of Kruger National Park, the landscapes of KwaZulu-Natal, and the possibility of combining safari with Cape Town and the Indian Ocean coast.

The greatest luxury is not having everything available.

It is knowing you will not have to think about everything.

Your family simply gets to be there.

### Kosher Food

Kosher food in Africa is certified by the Beth Din of South Africa which is the Jewish religious court responsible for ensuring that food and other products meet the standards of Jewish dietary laws.

Stainless steel pots and pans are boiled and torched clean between each meal or for a nominal fee new pots, pans, plates, and cutlery/flatware will be supplied and be inspected by you when you check into the safari lodge or camp, or if you prefer you can bring in your own pots & pans. After every use, they are washed in a special designated area. During your stay, you are more than welcome to inspect the kitchen to ensure you are pleased with how your meals are being prepared.

**Deluxe Option**

At our approved **Kosher Safari Lodges**, Pareve meals will be prepared fresh on-site by chefs who have been trained in kosher catering, and at your request, kosher milk products as well as kosher meat from a Mehadrin Commission Kosher Butchery will be brought in.

**Private & Exclusive**

A Mashgiach who is Shomer Shabbat and has completed the Mashgiach kashrut course will be flown into the safari lodge. If the lodge doesn't have a dedicated kosher kitchen, he will set up a temporary separated kitchen with new cooking utensils & equipment as well as import the Kosher approved ingredients including Chalav Yisrael & Mehadrin meat as well as shabbos candles and fragrance for havdalah. He will supervise all the cooking.

If needed we can also get a private Jewish Kosher chef from a recognized kashrut authority to accompany him. Both of them are very involved in the Jewish community in South Africa and work with full permission of their overseeing Rabbi.
